- Effectiveness: 4.5 / 5 – My teeth have looked bright and not suffered any sensitivity issues whatsoever
- Value For Money: 3.5 / 5 – Definitely priced higher than off-the-shelf brands found in your local supermarket, but works well.
- Taste: 5 / 5 – At first I fund it somewhat strange to have such a mild taste, but now I much prefer this mild flavour than the strong ones found in other toothpastes.
My favourite tasting toothpaste by far, and without an aftertaste. Slightly different take on how a whitening toothpaste is formulated and thus effective without damaging our previous teeth enamel. However it is a bit more expensive than regular toothpaste.

I think everybody on the whole planet wants a brilliant, bright smile and I am certainly no exception. I’ve tried many different brands over the years – when I was young and poor I bought whatever had the biggest discount to get a good deal. But as I grew (slightly) older and wiser (hopefully – haha!) it dawned on me to try to find the best, not the cheapest. Not all toothpastes are created equal and so, almost every time I needed to replace a toothpaste I’d buy a different one to try to get the results I’m after.
I’ve used my tube of Nu Skin’s whitening toothpaste for 2 months and there’s probably about 2 more weeks left in it. I am at the crossroads to buy again or change so I wrote this review in case you’re looking for a quality whitening toothpaste to have confidence in your smile.
The Big Question – Does Nu Skin AP24 Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste Work?
In short – yes, but it isn’t quite so simple. My teeth are definitely looking white and bright. I am smiling confidently and, at the end of the day, that’s the whole point. I’m not sure if they are whitening my teeth more than any other brand I’ve tried though. I never expected to have a TV-advert smile after using this as no toothpaste can change the natural colour of our teeth – that requires bleaching. Don’t believe those ridiculous reviews out there that suggest this or any other whitening toothpaste can make your teeth pure white. It’s physically impossible without bleaching.
So why do I score it a 9 for effectiveness? It is as whitening as any toothpaste can be. However, Nu Skin manages to whiten without using peroxides and harsh abrasives and my teeth haven’t felt any sensitivity whatsoever. So for me personally, the issue here is health – Nu Skin’s fluoride toothpaste has a low Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA) score of 103, far below the industry safe score of 250. The higher the RDA score, the more likely a toothpaste is eroding your teeth enamel and damage to your teeth enamel cannot be repaired!
It cleans, whitens AND protects the teeth without eroding enamel so I consider it highly effective. Why would anyone buy a non-whitening toothpaste if there is one that does everything?
How Does It Taste?
Let’s talk about the taste of the AP24 toothpaste as it goes in your mouth for 4 minutes everyday! Of the toothpastes I used to use, they all tasted different and yet, the same. I could taste the artificial peppermint or spearmint flavour. I had never really paid attention to it before.
The Nu Skin toothpaste isn’t actually minty, it’s a vanilla flavour according to Nu Skin. I don’t like the strong taste of vanilla, but in the Nu Skin whitening toothpaste it is so mild that it just becomes a slight sweetener to give the toothpaste a mildly pleasant flavour. My husband didn’t even notice it was vanilla until I pointed it out but he agrees that it is a nice flavour. I found it very different, initially just odd that a toothpaste had such a mild flavour in it but it grew on me quickly and I don’t wish to go back to a strongly flavoured toothpaste anymore. I get the same fresh mouth feeling without artificial taste like regular toothpastes.
I wonder how you guys feel about it if you have tried it? Taste is subjective after all, so for some of you the taste may be too mild. Feel free to leave a comment below to share your take on the flavour.
Final Thoughts – Would I Recommend This Product?
Well I have just ordered two more – one for my mum, and my husband and I will continue to use it as he drinks a lot of tea and has slightly sensitive teeth. Although it is more expensive than the supermarket-shelf brands I do feel it is worth it due to the piece of mind by protecting my teeth enamel. It’s a couple bucks a month more which upon reflection I could’ve afforded years ago too.
